Wishnutama Kusubandio (born 4 May 1970) is a well-known Indonesian businessman and former journalist. He helped start and was the CEO of NET. Mediatama Television. He led the company from its beginning in 2013 until he left in 2019. Wishnutama also served as the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy for Indonesia. He held this important role under President Joko Widodo from October 2019 to December 2020.

Early Life and School
Wishnutama was born in Jayapura, Indonesia, on 4 May 1970. He went to junior high school in Jakarta. After that, he moved to Australia for high school. He studied at the Kooralbyn International School in Brisbane. Later, he attended the International School Singapore.
After finishing school in Singapore, he went to college in the United States. He studied at the Military College of Vermont at Norwich University. He also studied Liberal Arts at Mount Ida College. He focused on Communication at Emerson College in Boston. He even took special courses in television production. Wishnutama also joined leadership programs at places like Harvard Business School.
His Journey in Television
Wishnutama started his career in television while still in college. He worked part-time as a production assistant at New England Cable News. After graduating, he got a job at WHDH7, a TV station in Boston.
In 1994, Wishnutama returned to Indonesia. He joined Indosiar, a big TV station, as a supervisor. He quickly moved up the ranks. He became a Production Assistant and then an Executive Producer for news. By 1999, he was the Production Manager. At Indosiar, he helped create many popular shows. These included Pesta, Gebyar BCA, and Patroli.
In 2001, he moved to Trans TV. He started as a Vice President of Production. Within a few years, he became the Managing Director. By 2006, he was the President Director (CEO) of TV7, which later became Trans7. He led both Trans7 and Trans TV until 2012. During his time there, he helped produce many famous shows. Some of these were Extravaganza, Dunia Lain, Opera Van Java, and Indonesia Mencari Bakat.
Starting New TV Channels
After leaving Trans Corp, Wishnutama decided to create a new television station. He teamed up with Agus Lasmono. Their new station, NET., officially started airing on 26 May 2013.
Wishnutama also became a Commissioner for Kumparan in 2017. This is an online news platform.
Asian Games 2018
A big highlight of his career was being the Creative Director for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Asian Games 2018. This was a huge event held in Indonesia. He helped plan and create the amazing shows for these ceremonies.
Becoming a Minister
On 23 October 2019, Wishnutama was chosen for a very important job. President Joko Widodo appointed him as the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy. In this role, he worked to boost tourism and support creative industries in Indonesia. He served in this position until 22 December 2020. He was then replaced by Sandiaga Uno.
Awards and Recognition
Wishnutama has received many awards for his work. He won the Asian Television Award and Panasonic Awards. In 2010, SWA magazine named him the Best CEO in Indonesia.
In 2015, he won the Indonesia Marketing Champion award. This was for his excellent work in the Broadcast, TV Pay & Media Sector. The next year, he was listed among the 500 Most Influential CEOs in the world by Richtopia.com. He also received the Best Chief Strategy Execution Officer award in 2016. In 2017, he was honored as an influential person in the creative industry by Ideafest.
Indonesian National Television Association (ATVNI)
Wishnutama was also the Chairman of the Board for the ATVNI. This group was officially started on 10 September 2017. Its goal is to make sure TV content is educational and responsible. Several national TV stations, including Kompas TV, NET., and RTV, are part of this association.
Personal Life
Wishnutama married actress and presenter Gista Putri on 20 September 2015. When he has free time, he enjoys playing music with his band, Soulful Corp. He also loves photography.
