Wiyogo Atmodarminto (born 22 November 1922 – died 19 October 2012) was an important person in Indonesia. Many people knew him as Bang Wi. He was a soldier, a diplomat (someone who represents their country in other countries), and a politician. He served as the Governor of Jakarta, Indonesia's capital city, from 1987 to 1992. Before that, he was Indonesia's Ambassador to Japan. He also held many important jobs in the army, including taking part in a big event during Indonesia's fight for independence.

Early Life and Education
Wiyogo Atmodarminto was born in Yogyakarta, which was then part of the Dutch East Indies. His birthday was on 22 November 1922, and he was born at the Yogyakarta Palace.
He went to school at Taman Siswa, which was a special kind of school in Indonesia. After that, he joined the Yogya Military Academy. While he was a student there, he helped in Indonesia's fight for independence. He then decided to make a career in the army. In 1954, he went to the United States to study at the Rangers Course at Fort Benning.
Military Career
Wiyogo Atmodarminto had a long and important career in the Indonesian Army.
Early Military Roles
He served as the Deputy Commander of Battalion 330 in Majalengka. In this role, he helped deal with a local conflict known as the Darul Islam rebellion.
Leadership Positions
In 1965, he studied in Germany. After his studies, he became the Commander of Garuda IV, a special military unit, in South Vietnam. Later, in 1973, he was made the Chief of Staff of the Army Strategic Command unit, also known as Kostrad. This is a very important part of the army.
He also became the Governor of the Indonesian Military Academy. This meant he was in charge of training new army officers. He then served as the Commander of Kostrad and the Commander of Defense Area Command I & II, which are high-level military leadership roles.

Wiyogo Atmodarminto became the Governor of Jakarta, Indonesia's capital city, in 1987. He served in this important role until 1992.
Making Jakarta Better
During his time as governor, he introduced a special idea for Jakarta. A journalist called it the "BMW concept." This stood for:
- Bersih (Clean)
- Manusiawi (Humane)
- Wibawa (Authoritative)
This concept meant he wanted Jakarta to be a clean city, where people were treated well, and where the government was strong and respected.
Rules for Transportation
As governor, Wiyogo Atmodarminto continued a rule about becaks. Becaks are like bicycle rickshaws, and they were a common sight in Jakarta. However, a previous governor, Ali Sadikin, had banned them. Wiyogo Atmodarminto kept this ban in place.
Death
Wiyogo Atmodarminto passed away on 19 October 2012. He collapsed at home after performing his evening prayer. He was quickly taken to the Metropolitan Medical Center hospital in South Jakarta but died shortly after arriving. His body was then taken by soldiers to the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta, a special place where national heroes are buried.
