Woodcrest is a special kind of community in Riverside County, California. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that looks like a town but isn't officially governed by its own city leaders.
In 2010, about 14,347 people lived in Woodcrest. This was a big jump from 8,342 people in 2000. The nearby city of Riverside might one day include Woodcrest as part of its city limits. This process is called annexation.

History of Woodcrest
The Woodcrest area was first settled by farmers in the late 1800s. These farmers grew grain without needing much irrigation.
In 1894, enough families lived there for a school to be built. The Riverside County leaders officially started the Oak Glen School District on February 6 of that year.
How Woodcrest Got Its Name
The name "Woodcrest" comes from a few things. "Wood" was part of the names of several important landowners in the area. "Crest" was added because the first Woodcrest Acres neighborhood was on top of the hills.
A woman named Susan Wood owned land near what is now Wood Road. The road was named after her in 1916. John C. Woodard owned a large piece of land near Washington Street. For many years, a main road was called Woodard Grade. Later, the county changed the road's path, and it became part of Washington Street. Two other people who helped sell land in the area were Marie and Charles Wood.
Growing and Changing
In 1905, the first planned neighborhood, called the Oak Glen Tract, was created. More neighborhoods followed, like House Heights in 1924. In 1926, the first of five areas named Woodcrest Acres was formed.
Later that year, a post office was opened and given the name "Woodcrest." Even though the post office closed in 1936, people kept calling the area Woodcrest.
Water became easier to get and more affordable in Woodcrest after 1955. This happened when people voted to create the Western Municipal Water District. Landowners then started growing different kinds of crops. Orange groves, which were shrinking in Riverside city, actually grew in Woodcrest.
However, starting in the 1980s, more people wanted to live in the area. Land became cheaper for building homes. This led to fewer farms and orange groves. Today, most of the orange groves in Woodcrest have been replaced by houses and buildings. The citrus farming that was once very important to Riverside and nearby communities has almost disappeared.
