Worden is part of a larger area called the Huntley Project. This project is an irrigation district that was started in 1907. It helps bring water to farms in the area. Other nearby communities like Ballantine, Huntley, and Pompey's Pillar are also part of this project.

History of Worden
Early Beginnings
The land where Worden is located was once part of the Crow Indian Reservation. This reservation was set up in 1868. Later, in the early 1880s, the Northern Pacific Railroad was built through this area. A train station called "Clermont" was reportedly built about 21 miles from Billings, right across the tracks from where Worden is today.
The Huntley Project and Growth
The town of Worden was officially planned out in 1907. This happened as part of the Huntley Project. This project brought water to the dry land, turning it into rich farmland. This change made the area very attractive to new settlers and immigrants.
As the community grew, it became home to different churches, including a German Congregational church and a Methodist church. A local newspaper, The Yellowstone County News, was also based in Worden, keeping residents informed about local happenings.
