World facts for kids
The World usually means our home planet, Earth. It's the only place we know where Humans and all other living things exist! When people talk about "the world," they are almost always talking about our planet.
Long ago, before people knew that Earth was a planet, they sometimes used "World" to mean the entire Universe. Today, we still use the word "world" in different ways. Sometimes it means all the people on Earth, or all of human civilization. Other times, it can mean a specific part of Earth, like the Western world or the Islamic world.
What is Our World?
Our world, Earth, is a planet that orbits the Sun. It's the third planet from the Sun and the only one known to have life. Earth is covered mostly by oceans, with large landmasses called continents. It has a special atmosphere that helps living things breathe and protects us from space.
Scientists study our world to understand how it works. They learn about its geology, weather, climate, and all the different plants and animals that live here. Protecting our world is very important so that future generations can also enjoy its beauty and resources.
