Wye Mills is a small community in Talbot County, Maryland, United States. It's not a city or town, but an unincorporated community. Wye Mills is located where two main roads, Maryland Route 404 and Maryland Route 662, cross paths. It sits just south of the border with Queen Anne's County.

The Wye Mill

The Wye Mill is a very old mill that has been working almost continuously since 1682. Today, it's not just a working mill; it also has a museum. You can visit to learn about how mills work and their history.

The Wye Oak

The Wye Oak was Maryland's official state tree. It was a huge, famous tree located right here in Wye Mills. Sadly, a big storm destroyed it on June 6, 2002. Even though it's gone, it remains an important part of the community's history.

Old Wye Church

The Old Wye Church, also known as St. Luke's, is a very old Anglican church. It's the only church of its kind in Talbot County that dates back to the 1700s. The church first opened its doors in 1712.

Wye House and Other Historic Sites

The Wye House is a large, historic mansion. It was built between 1780 and 1790. This mansion is so important that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other historic buildings in the area that are also listed include the Old Wye Church, the Miller's House, and Wilton.

The Wye Accords Peace Talks

In 1993, there were peace talks called the Oslo Accords to help solve the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. When those talks didn't fully succeed, former U.S. President Bill Clinton hosted a new meeting in Wye Mills. This summit happened in October 1998. Important leaders like King Hussein of Jordan and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat attended. They discussed many issues and reached some agreements. However, some big challenges, like setting borders, were not fully resolved.

The Elián González Story

In 2000, a young boy named Elián González became the center of a big news story. His situation involved his family and the relationship between Cuba and the United States. For a short time, Elián and his father stayed in Wye Mills. They were kept away from the media at the quiet Wye River Plantation while family members tried to get visiting rights and legal discussions continued.
