Yalti Napangati (born around 1970) is a famous Aboriginal artist from Australia. She is known for her paintings in the Western Desert style. Yalti creates art for the Papunya Tula art center. Her husband, Warlimpirrnga, is also a well-known artist. They were part of a special group called the Pintupi Nine. This group was the last to live a traditional way of life in Australia's desert.
Her Early Life in the Desert
Yalti was born in the Great Sandy Desert around 1970. She and her family lived as nomads in the desert. This means they moved from place to place. They traveled along the western side of Lake Mackay.
Most other Pintupi families had moved into towns by the 1950s. But Yalti's father kept their family away from these places. Her parents were Lanti (also called "Joshua") and Nanu. She has an older brother, Tamayinya, and a younger sister, Yukultji.
Yalti married Warlimpirrnga in the early 1980s. She was possibly as young as 12 years old. In 1984, Yalti and her family came out of the desert. She now lives in a community called Kiwirrkurra. She has two sons and two daughters.
Her Art and Stories
Yalti started painting for Papunya Tula in June 1996. She uses acrylic paints to create her art. Her paintings show landscapes connected to Pintupi dreaming stories.
These stories are very important to her culture. Her artworks show special places in her home country. These places include Marruwa, Laurryi, Wirrulnga, and Patjarr.
