Yanam district is one of the four districts that make up the Union Territory of Puducherry in India. A Union Territory is a special type of administrative division in India, directly governed by the central government.
Yanam is a small area, only about 20 square kilometers in size. It is located within the state of Andhra Pradesh. However, Yanam district, along with Mahe district, Karaikal district, and Puducherry district, are all part of the Puducherry Union Territory. This is because they were once colonies of France until 1954.
