How Puducherry is Divided
For managing the area, the union territory of Puducherry is split into different parts. These parts are called taluks. A taluk is a type of administrative division, like a county or a borough.
Some of the main taluks in Puducherry district are:
- Puducherry taluk
- Villianur taluk
- Ozhukarai taluk
- Bahour taluk
Ozhukarai taluk is special because it does not have any rural areas. All its land is considered urban.
The rural areas of Puducherry taluk are part of a commune called Ariyankuppam. A commune is a small administrative area, often including a town and surrounding villages.
Villianur taluk has two rural communes. These are Mannadipet and Villianur. Bahour taluk also has two rural communes: Bahour and Nettapakkam.
