History of Karaikal
Karaikal District has a long and interesting history. In the 8th century, it was part of the powerful Pallava kingdom. This was a very important kingdom in South India.
A famous poet named Sekkizhar wrote about Karaikal. He described it as "vanga malik kadar karaikal," which means a place with many ships and a bustling port. This shows that Karaikal was important for trade even a long time ago.
