Where is Yandaran Located?
Yandaran is mostly inland, but its north-east side touches the beautiful Coral Sea. Imagine living close to the ocean!
Travel by Train
A railway line, called the North Coast railway line, runs through Yandaran. It passes right by the town. You can catch a train at the Yandaran railway station. There are also two other stations nearby: Littabella and Takoka.
A Look Back in Time
The name Yandaran likely comes from an Aboriginal word. It is thought to mean "watershed," which is an area of land where all the water drains into a single river or lake.
Early Schools in Yandaran
Education has been important in Yandaran for a long time.
Yandaran Creek School
Yandaran Creek Provisional School first opened its doors on 14 September 1886. It later became Yandaran Creek State School in 1909. The school closed for a short time in 1942 but reopened in 1944. It finally closed for good in 1957.
Yandaran State School
Another school, Yandaran State School, started teaching students on 7 April 1919. This school is still open today!
Littabella Creek School
Littabella Creek Provisional School opened in 1899. It became Littabella Creek State School in 1909. This school closed around 1935.
Learning in Yandaran Today
Yandaran State School is the main school in the area. It is a government primary school for kids from Prep (the first year of school) to Year 6. You can find it on School Lane.
In 2016, 25 students were enrolled at the school. By 2018, there were 23 students. The school has dedicated teachers and staff who help students learn and grow.
Community Life
The people of Yandaran have a strong community spirit.
Queensland Country Women's Association
The local branch of the Queensland Country Women's Association (QCWA) is very active. This group helps women and families in country areas. They meet at the QCWA Hall on Main Street. It's a great place for people to connect and support each other.
