Location and Geography

Yandaran is located mostly inland, but its north-east border touches the beautiful Coral Sea. This gives the area a mix of bushland and coastal scenery.

Transport and Railways

The North Coast railway line runs through the area. This is a major train route that travels along the coast of Queensland. The railway passes the town from the east and heads north.

There are three railway stations in the locality:

History and Name Origin

The history of Yandaran goes back many years. The name "Yandaran" is believed to come from an Aboriginal word meaning "watershed". A watershed is an area of land that separates waters flowing to different rivers or seas.

Early Schools

  • Yandaran Creek Provisional School opened in September 1886. It changed names and closed a few times due to low student numbers before closing permanently in 1957.
