Yandilla is located near the Condamine River, which forms its north-eastern edge. A railway line, called the Millmerran railway line, used to run through Yandilla, making it easy to travel. The Gore Highway, a main road, also goes right through the area.

The name Yandilla comes from a large farming area, or "pastoral run," that was set up long ago. A man named St George Richard Gore, who was a farmer and also involved in politics, first used the name in 1842. Before that, the area was briefly known as Grass Tree Creek. There's still a creek with that name nearby today.
What Does Yandilla Mean?
The exact meaning of the name Yandilla isn't completely clear. Some people believe it's an Aboriginal word that means running water. Others think it might be named after a village in Ireland. This is because St George Gore's brother was from a place called Manor Gore in Donegal, Ireland.
Yandilla's Schools Through Time
Yandilla has had a few schools over the years.
- The first Yandilla Provisional School opened on October 2, 1882.
- In 1901, its name changed to Millmerran Provisional School.
- Then, on January 1, 1909, it became Millmerran State School.
- A second Yandilla Provisional School opened in October 1945 but closed a few years later in 1956.
