Josephine "Yeng" Constantino-Asuncion (born December 4, 1988) is a famous Filipino singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Many people call her the Philippines Pop Rock Royalty because she has created so many popular songs in the Philippine music industry. In 2006, she won the first season of Pinoy Dream Academy, a reality TV show similar to Star Academy.
Yeng Constantino is one of the most respected and successful Filipino artists ever. She has won about 70 awards, including a FAMAS Award and many Awit Awards and Myx Music Awards. In 2020, her song "Ikaw" reached over 100 million views on YouTube. This made it one of the most-watched music videos by a female Filipino artist. In 2023, she joined Republic Records, a big music company. That same year, she became a global ambassador for the Academy of Rock, a music school in Singapore that teaches rock and pop music.
Her first album, Salamat, came out in January 2007. It was a huge success, selling enough copies to become "triple Platinum" in the Philippines. This album had five songs that reached number one and six songs in the top ten. It stayed at number one on the Odyssey album charts for a long time. Her second album, Journey, was released in 2008 and also did very well. Later, she released other popular albums like Lapit (2009), Metamorphosis (2013), and All About Love (2014). Her song "Ikaw" from All About Love became a big hit. Her most recent album, Synesthesia, was released in 2018.
Her song "Hawak Kamay" was listed by CNN Philippines as one of the best Filipino love songs from the last 25 years. Yeng Constantino has also acted in movies, like Write About Love. She even won an award for Best Supporting Actress at the MMFF in 2019. As of May 2023, her songs have been streamed over 350 million times on Spotify, making her one of the most streamed Filipino artists.

Family and Background
Yeng Constantino is the youngest of five children in her family. She is a second cousin to Robi Domingo, a well-known television host. Her family follows the born-again Christian faith.
Marriage and Lifestyle
In June 2013, Yeng started dating Victor "Yan" Asuncion, who is also a musician. After nine months, in March 2014, she announced their engagement on Instagram. They got married on February 14, 2015, at a resort in Tagaytay, Cavite. Since September 2015, both Yeng and Yan have been following a vegan diet.
Yeng Constantino's Music Journey
Starting Her Career and First Successes (2006–2007)
On August 27, 2006, Yeng Constantino tried out for the first season of Pinoy Dream Academy, a singing competition. In December, she won the show, becoming the first "Grand Star Dreamer." She received 697,648 votes, which was 37.32% of all votes.
After winning, Star Music released her first album, Salamat. It had 10 songs, and Yeng wrote seven of them herself. The album quickly became a Gold Record, then Platinum, and later "3x Platinum."
Second Album and Group Performance (2008)
Because her first album was so successful, Star Music released Yeng's second album, Journey, on February 28, 2008. The main song from this album was "Ikaw Lang Talaga." This album had 12 songs, and Yeng wrote some of them. It also reached Gold status.
In November 2008, Yeng joined an all-female group called Y.R.S. with Rachelle Ann Go and Sarah Geronimo. They performed on the TV show ASAP '08 until the group ended in 2010.
New Albums and TV Hosting (2009–2012)
Her third album, Lapit, was first released online on October 9, 2009. It was later released in music stores. Lapit also became a Platinum album.
In March 2010, Yeng started hosting a TV show called Music Uplate Live. It was a late-night music show on ABS-CBN and aired until September 2011.
On October 5, 2011, Star Records released her first live album, Yeng Versions Live. On this album, she sang popular OPM (Original Pilipino Music) songs from the 80s and 90s. This album was also very popular and quickly reached Platinum status.
Changing Her Style with Metamorphosis (2013)
Yeng released her fourth studio album, Metamorphosis, on January 28, 2013. The first song from the album was "B.A.B.A.Y." The music video for her second song, "Chinito," became very popular. It featured Filipino actor Enchong Dee.
In November 2013, Yeng released an international song called "Better Than Yesterday." This pop song featured Singaporean rapper Sheikh Haikel. Her album Metamorphosis reached Gold status in December 2014.
All About Love and The Voice Kids (2014–2015)
Yeng released her fifth album, All About Love, on October 30, 2014. With this album, she tried out new music styles. The music video for the first song, "Ikaw," was also a pre-wedding video with her fiancé, Yan Asuncion. By December 13, 2015, the album had sold 15,000 copies and received Gold and Platinum awards.
In May 2015, Yeng announced that she would be a co-host for the second season of The Voice Kids. She hosted alongside Luis Manzano and her cousin Robi Domingo. The show aired from June to August 2015.
Celebrating Ten Years in Music (2016)
In 2016, Yeng became a mentor on the reality show We Love OPM: The Celebrity Sing-Offs. Her team, "Oh My Girls," finished in second place.
Yeng also planned a musical in 2016 to celebrate her ten years in the music industry. The musical was called Ako Si Josephine.
Later in 2016, Yeng joined the judges' panel for ABS-CBN's singing competition Pinoy Boyband Superstar. She judged alongside Vice Ganda, Aga Muhlach, and Sandara Park.
DIVAS Concerts (2016–2020; 2023)
On April 27, 2016, Yeng was announced as part of the "DIVAS Live in Manila" concert. She performed with Kyla, KZ Tandingan, and Angeline Quinto. The concert took place on November 11, 2016.
On December 15, 2018, Yeng, KZ, Angeline, and Kyla performed together again at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. This time, they shared the stage with the famous group Boyz II Men.
From July to August 2023, Kyla, Yeng, and KZ went on a tour in the United States and Canada. They were joined by Jason Dy as a special guest.
Synesthesia Album (2018)
In 2018, Yeng Constantino released her sixth studio album, Synesthesia. The album included songs like "Pinipigil" and the hit single "Ako Muna." "Ako Muna" is a pop ballad about self-empowerment. Yeng performed the song live on the Wish 107.5 bus, and the video gained 7.2 million views on YouTube. The music video for "Ako Muna" was released in March 2018 and has over 9.8 million views. Other songs from the album were "Tahimik" and "Dasal."
New Record Label (2023)
In 2023, Yeng Constantino was named a global ambassador for the Academy of Rock in Singapore. This school teaches rock and popular music.
In the same year, Yeng left Star Music and Star Magic and signed with Republic Records Philippines.

Who Inspired Her Music?
When Yeng was starting out, she was inspired by Canadian singers Alanis Morissette and Avril Lavigne. She also liked country music artists like LeAnn Rimes and Martina McBride. Some of her favorite pop-punk and rock bands included the Ataris, Blink 182, and Sum 41. She also looked up to Filipino rock singers like Acel Bisa and Kitchie Nadal.
In November 2014, she shared that she was a fan of more recent stars like Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, and Hayley Williams.
Since 2018, Yeng has also started her own YouTube vlog, where she often talks about how much she admires Mariah Carey.
