Discovering Insects at Yeongwol Insectarium
One popular place to visit in Yeongwol is the Yeongwol Insectarium (Korean: 영월곤충박물관). This is a private insect museum that has a large collection of insects from Korea and all over the world.
The museum was started by Professor Lee Dae-Am. He is a professional architect and also loves insects. The insectarium opened on May 5, 2002. The building used to be a school before Professor Lee Dae-Am turned it into a museum.
The main goal of the museum is to make people interested in insects. It also teaches visitors how important bugs are to the world's natural systems. The Yeongwol Insectarium is known as one of the best places to visit in the area.
Inside the museum, you can see both living and dead insect collections. There are many different types of insects, from butterflies to bees, and from dragonflies to grasshoppers. The insect displays are organized into three sections in the Exhibition Room.
The museum also shows special insects, like Korean endangered species. You can see the Baby-Dragonfly, which is one of the smallest dragonflies in the world. There is also a very large and rare beetle on display.
