Yerecoin is a small town in the Wheatbelt area of Western Australia. It is about 156 kilometers (97 miles) northeast of Perth, the state capital. Yerecoin is part of the Shire of Victoria Plains, which is like a local government area.

The land around Yerecoin is very important for farming. Farmers here grow lots of wheat and other cereal crops. These are plants like barley or oats, used to make food. Yerecoin also has a special site where farmers can deliver their grain. This site is run by the CBH Group, a big company that helps Western Australian farmers.

History of Yerecoin

How Yerecoin Got Its Name

The name Yerecoin comes from the Aboriginal people. It was the name for a natural water source, called a "soakage well," nearby. A surveyor first wrote down this name in 1879.

The Railway Arrives

Yerecoin started as a railway station. A new railway line was approved in 1914. This line went north from Toodyay. It reached Calingiri in 1917 and then Piawaning in 1919. Piawaning is just 10 kilometers (6 miles) north of Yerecoin.

Developing the Town

The land around Yerecoin was owned by the Midland Railway Company. They did not divide the land into smaller plots until 1925. The company also set aside an area for a townsite. This area was about 200 acres (0.8 square kilometers).

However, all this land was sold to just one owner. This made the town grow slowly at first. But things started to pick up. A school opened in 1927. After that, other important community buildings were built. The town of Yerecoin was officially recognized by the government in 1966.
