Yevhen Halych (born April 29, 1984) is a talented Ukrainian rock musician. He is also a TV host and DJ. Yevhen is best known as the lead singer of the popular Ukrainian rock band O.Torvald.

About Yevhen Halych
Early Life and Music
Yevhen Halych was born in Bila Tserkva, Ukraine, on April 29, 1984. He spent his first eight years in Kazakhstan. His father was serving in the Soviet Army there. In 1992, Yevhen and his family moved to Poltava, Ukraine. He has lived there for a long time.
Yevhen started music lessons when he was five years old. In 1994, he met Denys Miziuk, who was his neighbor. Denys later became the guitarist for O.Torvald and Yevhen's best friend. From 1999 to 2005, they played in a band called "Kruty! Pedali". After that, they started their new band, O.Torvald.
Yevhen studied at the Poltava Institute of Military Telecommunications. He became a reserve lieutenant and an engineer. During his last years at the institute, he worked at a radio station. This job made him realize that music was his true passion.
Moving to Kyiv and Band Success
After graduating in 2006, Yevhen and his band moved to Kyiv. They rented a house together. From 2006 to 2010, this house was their home and their music studio. At first, they did not earn much money from music. So, everyone worked other jobs. This left little time for their music.
In 2008, O.Torvald recorded their first album, also called "O.Torvald". Their band started to become more popular, especially after 2011. Yevhen used to write all the songs and lyrics by himself. Now, his friend Mykola "DJ Polyarnyk" Rayda helps him. Besides O.Torvald, Yevhen also plays in another band called "NUDLY".
Yevhen's Work in Television and Radio
While living in Kyiv, Yevhen worked for several TV channels. He worked for the music channel M1. He also worked for the entertainment channel NLO TV. From 2018, he worked for Megogo Live, a channel that plays alternative music.
Yevhen also worked for the radio station "Prosto Radi.O". He enjoyed being a radio host. He said it was a very cool job. He even mentioned that it helped solve small problems. He is an early riser, so working in the morning was easy for him.
Family Life
Yevhen Halych is married to Valeriya. They welcomed a daughter in 2013. Yevhen wrote a song called "Нас двоє" ("Two of us") for his wife. She has also appeared in some of O.Torvald's music videos.
In April 2022, Yevhen joined the Ukrainian Army. This was after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Representing Ukraine at Eurovision
On February 25, 2017, O.Torvald won the national competition to represent Ukraine in Eurovision. Yevhen Halych, as part of O.Torvald, represented Ukraine with their song "Time". They performed at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.
Yevhen's Thoughts
Yevhen Halych has shared his thoughts on language and music. He grew up speaking Russian and went to a Russian-language school. He did not have many chances to speak Ukrainian. However, he now tries to speak Ukrainian. He is proud of his country's language. He believes a country should have its own language.
He also talked about how hard it was for O.Torvald to get media attention. For 10 years, they tried to promote their music. Many TV channels and radio stations said no. But after they won the Eurovision national selection, these same media outlets called them. Yevhen asked them to support new Ukrainian music. He believes the future of Ukrainian music depends on this support.
Yevhen also mentioned bands that inspired him. He listened to bands like Tartak, TNMK, Druha Rika, Dymna Sumish, Krykhitka Tsakhes, Okean Elzy, and BoomBox. He looked up to Andriy Hlyvniuk as a musician and frontman. He also admired Svyatoslav Vakarchuk for staying popular for 20 years. Yevhen also liked the band SINOPTIK.
He said his biggest mentor was Andriy Kuzmenko from the band Skryabin. Yevhen always wanted to work with him and listen to his advice.
