Building Yew Tee MRT Station
The Yew Tee MRT station was built in 1995. It was part of a bigger project called the North South Line Woodlands Extension. This project added six new stations to the train line.
Station Design and Opening
The station building has two floors. It was designed to look simple, with a roof style that reminds people of old "kampung" (village) houses. The station officially opened on February 10, 1996.
Changes During Construction
Building the station was a big job. The government needed to buy land between Yew Tee and Kranji stations. This affected 16 factories that were in the way. The station was first going to be called Choa Chu Kang North. However, its name was changed to Yew Tee in 1994, before it even opened.
