What is Yimbun Like?
Yimbun is mostly made up of farms and open land. You won't find big cities or lots of buildings here. It's a peaceful rural area.
Roads and Railways
A main road called the Brisbane Valley Highway runs right through Yimbun, going from north to south. This highway helps people travel to and from the area.
There used to be a train track, the Brisbane Valley railway line, that also went through Yimbun. However, this railway line is not used anymore.
How Did Yimbun Get Its Name?
The name Yimbun comes from the old Yimbun train station. It's a special word from the Dunibara language, which is part of the Waka language family. In this language, "Yimbun" means bullrush, which is a type of tall plant that grows in wet places.
Past Names of Yimbun
Before it was called Yimbun, this area had a couple of other names. For a short time, from 1904 to 1906, it was known as Moorabool. Then, from 1906 to 1914, it was called Kannangur. Finally, it became Yimbun.
