History of Yorktown
Yorktown was officially started in 1882. A person named C. E. Perkins planned out the city's streets and lots. Back then, it was an important stop on the Humeston and Shenandoah Railway. This railway helped connect Yorktown to other towns and cities.
Geography and Location
Yorktown is nestled in the rolling hills of southwestern Iowa. It's about 10 miles (16 km) from the Missouri border. If you were to drive, it's about 1½ hours from Omaha. It's also about 2½ hours from Des Moines and three hours from Kansas City.
