Yosemite dwarf rush
Scientific classification
Genus:
Juncus
Species:
triformis

The Juncus triformis is a special type of rush. People also call it the Yosemite dwarf rush or the long-styled dwarf rush. It's a very small plant that is not found everywhere.

This tiny plant only grows in California. It is endemic to California, which means it naturally lives only there. You can find it in wet places, like on granite rocks with thin soil. It loves areas like vernal pools (seasonal ponds) and seeps (where water slowly comes out of the ground). It lives in different parts of California, including the Sierra Nevada, the Central Valley, and some mountain ranges in the south.

What Does the Yosemite Dwarf Rush Look Like?

The Juncus triformis is a small plant that lives for only one year. It grows in thick groups. Its stems are very thin, like hair, and can be red. They grow up to about 16 centimeters (about 6 inches) tall.

Its Tiny Flowers

Each stem has a group of tiny flowers at the top. This group is called an inflorescence. There can be one to eight small flowers on each stem. The flowers have parts that are greenish or bright red. These parts are very short, only about 4 or 5 millimeters long.
