Yoshiro Hayashi (林 義郎, Hayashi Yoshirō, 16 June 1927 – 3 February 2017) was an important Japanese politician. He was a member of Japan's parliament, called the National Diet. He also held two big jobs in the government: Minister of Finance and Minister of Health and Welfare.
Early Life and School
Yoshiro Hayashi was born in 1927 in Shimonoseki, Japan. His family had a history in politics. His grandfather was part of an older Japanese parliament before World War II.
Hayashi studied at the University of Tokyo. This is one of the most famous universities in Japan.
His Political Career
Hayashi was a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). This is a major political party in Japan. He was first elected to the National Diet in 1969. The Diet is like the parliament or congress in other countries.
He served as the Minister of Health and Welfare. This role is about looking after people's health and social care. In 1989, he tried to become the leader of his party, the LDP. However, Toshiki Kaifu won that election instead.
In 1992, Hayashi became the Minister of Finance. This means he was in charge of Japan's money and economy. He worked under Kiichi Miyazawa, who was the Prime Minister at the time. He took over from Tsutomu Hata. His time as Finance Minister ended in 1993. After this, he worked to improve relations between Japan and China. In 1998, he was a special helper to Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto.
Yoshiro Hayashi stopped being involved in politics in 2003. He had served in the Diet for ten terms, which is a long time.
Family and Passing
Yoshiro Hayashi had a daughter and a son. His eldest son, Yoshimasa Hayashi, also became a politician. He has held several important government jobs, just like his father.
Yoshiro Hayashi passed away in Tokyo on February 3, 2017. He was 89 years old. He died from multiple organ failure.
