Yvoir (pronounced "ee-vwahr") is a charming municipality, which is like a town or local area, in Belgium. It is located in the southern part of Belgium called Wallonia. Specifically, you can find Yvoir in the province of Namur.
As of January 1, 2006, about 8,450 people lived in Yvoir. The total area of the municipality is about 56.84 square kilometers. This means there are around 149 people living in each square kilometer, which tells us how crowded or spread out the area is.
Yvoir is made up of several smaller areas or villages. These include Dorinne, Durnal, Evrehailles, Godinne, Houx, Mont, Purnode, Spontin, and Yvoir itself. Each of these places adds to the unique character of the municipality.
Sports and Fun
Yvoir has a history with sports! In 1975, it was the host city for the 1975 UCI Road World Championships. This was a big international cycling event where top cyclists competed.
Healthcare and Learning
Yvoir is home to an important hospital called Mont-Godinne. This hospital is part of the CHU UCLouvain Namur university hospital system. It's special because it also serves as a teaching hospital for the University of Louvain. This means that doctors and medical students learn and train there while helping patients.
