Zederik was a special type of local government area called a municipality. It was located in the western part of the Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The Zederik municipality covered an area of about 76 square kilometers. A small part of this area was water. Around 14,000 people lived there in 2018.
Zederik was formed on January 1, 1986. It was created by joining seven smaller municipalities together. These were Ameide, Hei- en Boeicop, Leerbroek, Lexmond, Meerkerk, Nieuwland, and Tienhoven aan de Lek. The name "Zederik" came from an old canal called the Old Zederik.
