Zog is a popular children's picture book from 2010. It was written by Julia Donaldson and beautifully illustrated by Axel Scheffler. The story is about a young, clumsy dragon named Zog. He tries his very best to be a top student at dragon school.

Zog Comes to Life on TV
Magic Light Pictures made Zog into a special half-hour TV show. It was shown on BBC One on Christmas Day in 2018. The show was directed by Max Lang. Magic Light has also made other popular books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler into TV specials. These include The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child, and Room on the Broom. The Zog TV special won an award in 2018 called the International Emmy for Kids Animation.
Watching Zog at Home
The Zog TV show was released on DVD in the United Kingdom on February 11, 2019. This allowed many more people to watch Zog's adventures whenever they wanted.
Who Are the Voices?
Many famous actors lent their voices to the characters in the Zog TV show:
- Sir Lenny Henry was the Narrator, telling the story.
- Hugh Skinner voiced Zog, the main character. Zog is an orange dragon who tries hard to earn a golden star at school.
- Kit Harington played Sir Gadabout the Great, a knight who joins Zog in an adventure.
- Patsy Ferran was Princess Pearl. She lives in a castle but dreams of becoming a doctor.
- Tracey Ullman voiced Madame Dragon, the green teacher at Dragon School. She teaches all the young dragons.
- Rob Brydon provided voices for the Horse, Castle Guards, and other characters.
Zog and the Flying Doctors
A second book, called Zog and the Flying Doctors, was published on September 7, 2016. It continued the adventures of Zog and his friends.
The Sequel on Screen
On November 12, 2019, it was announced that Magic Light Pictures and BBC One would create a TV special for Zog and the Flying Doctors. It aired on Christmas Day 2020. The music for this special was created by French composer Rene Aubry. The Zog and the Flying Doctors TV special was released on DVD in the United Kingdom on March 22, 2021.
