The ZooQuarium was a fun place that combined a zoo and an aquarium on Cape Cod in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, USA. It opened in 1969 and was a popular spot for families to visit. For many years, you could see amazing animals from both land and sea there.

Exploring the ZooQuarium

The ZooQuarium was a small park, about 7 acres (2.8 ha) in size. It was a unique attraction because it had both land animals and sea creatures. This made it a special place where visitors could learn about different types of wildlife.

Animals You Could See

The ZooQuarium was home to many different animals. Visitors loved watching the playful sea lions and graceful seals. Besides these aquatic animals, the ZooQuarium also had other land animals for everyone to enjoy. It was a great chance to learn about wildlife up close.

When Did It Operate?

The ZooQuarium first opened its doors in 1969. It welcomed visitors for over 40 years. Sadly, the ZooQuarium officially closed down in December 2013.

What Happened to the Location?

After the ZooQuarium closed, the property was bought in 2016. An underwater explorer named Barry Clifford purchased the land. He wanted to create a new museum there. This museum is called the Whydah Pirate Museum II.

The Whydah Pirate Museum

The new museum at the old ZooQuarium site shows off amazing artifacts. These items come from the Whydah Gally. This ship is the only fully proven pirate ship wreck from the Golden Age of Piracy. The museum displays treasures and objects found from this famous pirate ship. It's like stepping back in time to learn about real pirates! This museum is a sister location to another Whydah Pirate Museum in Provincetown, about 40 miles (64 km) north.
