Åre Municipality (which is Åre kommun in Swedish and Ååren tjïelte in South Sami) is a special area in Jämtland County, northern Sweden. It is like a local government area. The main town where the local government offices are is called Järpen.
This municipality was created in 1974. It was formed by joining the "old" Åre Municipality with some nearby areas. These areas included Hallen, Kall, Mörsil, and Undersåker. Even though Åre is famous, Järpen, which was part of Undersåker, was chosen as the main town for the new, bigger municipality.
