Arts and Culture
- January 8 – A new opera by the famous composer George Frideric Handel was performed for the first time. It was called Ariodante and premiered at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London.
Conflicts and Changes
- June 17 – During a conflict, French soldiers captured the city of Philippsburg. Sadly, a military leader named the Duke of Berwick was killed during this event.
- June 21 – In Montreal, which was then part of New France, a legal case involving a slave named Marie-Joseph Angélique took place. She was found guilty and received a severe punishment from the French authorities. This event shows the harsh realities of slavery and the legal systems of that time.
- June 30 – Russian soldiers successfully captured the city of Gdańsk (also known as Danzig). This city had been surrounded and attacked since October of 1733. French efforts to help the city were unsuccessful, leading to its capture by Russia.
