The 2002 Bali terrorist bombings were a series of terrible events that happened in Kuta, a popular tourist spot on the Indonesian island of Bali. These attacks were the deadliest act of terrorism in the history of Indonesia.
On October 12, 2002, two bombs exploded, causing a lot of damage and sadness. A total of 202 people lost their lives, and 209 others were hurt. Most of the people who died were visitors from other countries, especially Australia and Britain, but 38 Indonesian citizens also died.
What Happened During the Bombings
Around 11:00 PM, the first bomb went off inside a bar in Bali. This bomb was hidden in a backpack, and only the person carrying it died.
Just a few seconds later, a much bigger bomb exploded nearby. This second bomb was very powerful, weighing almost 1,000 kilograms. It caused a lot more destruction and injuries.
Who Was Responsible
A terrorist group known as Jemaah Islamiyah is believed to be behind these attacks. They planned and carried out the bombings.
After a lot of investigation, several people were identified and held responsible for the attacks. They faced serious consequences for their actions.
