Autoroutes of France |
The A9 is a major autoroute (motorway) in France. It's like a big, fast highway that helps people travel across the country. It connects to the A7 motorway near Orange and goes all the way to the border with Spain at Le Perthus. This road is super important for getting to popular cities like Perpignan, Montpellier, and Nîmes.
The A9 is also known by two cool names: La Languedocienne and La Catalane. These names come from the regions it passes through. The autoroute is maintained by a company called Vinci Autoroutes. It was first opened in 1967 and is about 280.5 kilometers (174 miles) long.

What is the A9 Autoroute?
The A9 is a key part of France's road network. It helps connect the south of France to Spain. It also links up with other important motorways. For example, the A54 joins the A9, heading towards Marseille. At its northern end, the A9 connects to the A7, which leads to Lyon and other parts of Northern France.
Exits and Rest Stops
Motorways like the A9 have special exits to towns and cities. They also have rest stops, called aires de repos, where drivers can take a break. Some rest stops are bigger and have gas stations and restaurants, called aires d'autoroute. You'll also find péage (toll booths) where drivers pay to use the road.
Here are some of the main exits and junctions along the A9:
