A Cat in Paris was first shown on October 15, 2010, at a film festival. It came out in French movie theaters on December 15, 2010.
The film was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. This was a big surprise to many people, as it was one of only two foreign-language films nominated that year. It also received a nomination for the César Award for Best Animated Film in 2011.
Plot
The story is about a black cat with red stripes named Dino. Dino lives a secret double life.
At night, Dino helps a skilled burglar named Nico steal valuable jewels. Nico calls the cat "Mr. Cat." During the day, Dino lives with a quiet young girl named Zoé. Zoé calls him Dino.
Zoé has not spoken since her father passed away. She feels distant from her mother, Jeanne, who is a police chief. A nanny named Claudine looks after Zoé.
One day, Nico gives Dino a special fish-shaped bracelet. Dino then gives this bracelet to Zoé.
At the police station, Jeanne is busy. She tells her team they must protect a famous statue called the Colossus of Nairobi. Zoé's father lost his life trying to protect this same statue from a dangerous criminal named Victor Costa. Victor Costa plans to try and steal the statue again. He has a gang of helpers with funny code names like Mr. Baby, Mr. Hulot, Mr. Frog, and Mr. Potato.
Back at home, Jeanne notices the fish bracelet Zoé is wearing. She takes it to her police partner, Lucas. Lucas realizes the bracelet matches items stolen in recent robberies.
Zoé secretly leaves her house and follows Dino. She sees Victor Costa's gang and discovers that Claudine, her nanny, is working for Victor! Claudine has been telling Victor about the police's plans. Zoé is spotted, but Nico quickly rescues her.
Nico takes Zoé to hide at the zoo. But Victor's gang is still chasing them. Luckily, Zoé escapes in a boat.
Meanwhile, Lucas finds a clue about the robberies. It leads him straight to Nico's home. When Nico returns and finds Zoé there, Jeanne and Lucas arrest him. They think Nico has kidnapped Zoé. Jeanne leaves Zoé with Claudine and goes with Lucas to find Victor. Nico knows Zoé is in danger. He escapes from the police to find her. Jeanne soon realizes that Nico was telling the truth about Zoé.
Claudine has taken Zoé to Victor's house and locked her away. Dino, using his amazing sense of smell, follows Claudine's perfume. He leads Nico to the house. Nico cuts the power and uses special night vision goggles. He manages to get Zoé away from the house.
Victor chases Nico and Zoé all the way to Notre Dame. Nico tries to trick Victor and falls, but Jeanne arrives just in time to save him.
Victor captures Zoé. But Jeanne, Nico, and Dino come to her rescue. Victor pushes Dino off a crane, so Nico has to save the cat. This leaves Jeanne to face Victor alone. Jeanne bravely saves her daughter. She hits Victor, which makes him confused and see things that are not real. Victor swings from the crane, thinking he is grabbing the Colossus of Nairobi. Instead, he falls to his death onto a truck below.
The rest of Victor's gang, including Claudine, are arrested. After this scary adventure, Zoé finally gets her voice back!
Nico decides to change his life. He stops being a burglar and becomes part of Zoé's family. Dino becomes their beloved family pet. For Christmas, Nico gives Jeanne a beautiful snow globe with the Cathedral of Notre Dame inside.
