A Flintstones Christmas Carol is an animated TV movie from 1994. It features characters from The Flintstones cartoon series. The story is based on the famous book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

This movie was made by Hanna-Barbera. It includes the voices of Henry Corden, Jean Vander Pyl, and Frank Welker. It first showed on TV on November 21, 1994, on the ABC network. This special was one of many Flintstones Christmas shows. You can also find it on DVD.

What Happens in the Story?

The people of Bedrock are putting on a play called A Christmas Carol. Many town citizens are part of the show.

  • Barney Rubble plays Bob Cragit.
  • Betty Rubble plays Mrs. Cragit.
  • Their son, Bamm-Bamm Rubble, is Tiny Tim.
  • Mr. Slate plays Jacob Marbley.
  • Wilma Flintstone is the stage manager.
  • Her daughter, Pebbles Flintstone, plays Martha Cragit.
  • Even Dino has a role as the Cragits' pet.

Fred Flintstone gets the main role of Ebonezer Scrooge. But he lets the role go to his head. He thinks he's a big star and spends all his time practicing lines. He forgets about his job and his family.

On Christmas Eve, Fred is in a hurry. He forgets to take Pebbles to "cave care" (like daycare). Later, he also forgets to pick her up. When Fred gets to the theater, Wilma is very upset. She cries and tells him about his mistake.

The Play Begins

The play starts with the narrator, Charles Brickens, reading the first lines. Fred gets a bit nervous but then goes on stage. The play goes on as planned.

During the second act, Wilma and Betty find out that Garnet, the actress playing the Ghost of Christmas Past, is sick. She has the "Bedrock Bug," which is like the flu. Since Wilma is the stage manager, she has to play the part herself.

Later, at Fezziwig's Christmas party scene, Betty tells Wilma that Maggie, who plays Belle, is also sick. So, Wilma has to play Belle too!

Fred then remembers he forgot to buy presents. He rushes to the store. There, he meets a hooded figure, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. This ghost turns out to be an actor named Philo Quartz. He drives Fred back to the theater.

The Final Act

In the third act, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows Scrooge an empty gravestone. It has Scrooge's name on it. Then, the scene changes to Scrooge's bedroom. He is alive! He finds out it's Christmas morning.

Scrooge asks a boy to buy a huge "Turkeysaurus" and send it to the Cragits for their feast. Scrooge gets ready to explore the city on Christmas morning. He meets Wilma, who is now playing a charity worker. The original actress also caught the Bedrock Bug.

Fred acts as if Wilma is Belle. He begs for forgiveness from both "Belle" and Wilma. He admits he's been selfish and promises to change. Wilma plays along, even though it's not in the script.

The play ends with the narrator saying that Scrooge has changed for good. Bamm-Bamm forgets his line, "God bless us, everyone!" So, Pebbles says it instead. When the curtain falls, the cast scolds Fred for acting like a "Scrooge" in real life. Fred says sorry. He tells Wilma he finally understands that his family and friends are more important than any play role.

As everyone leaves, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come takes off his hood. It's Dino! He took over the role after Philo got sick.

A changed Fred says he will make dinner for the family and invite Wilma's mother. But then, Fred gets the flu too! Wilma decides she and her mother will make dinner instead, since the Bedrock Bug only lasts a day.
