From 2016 to 2024, he worked with Lahore Qalandars. This is a team in the Pakistan Super League. He was their director of cricket operations and head coach. In 2024, he left these roles. He became part of the national team's selection committee instead.

Cricket Administration

In October 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board asked Aaqib to join their selection committee. He then left his coaching roles with Lahore Qalandars.

Aaqib has brought new ideas to cricket. He introduced an "all-spin attack" strategy. This is unusual for Pakistan, which usually relies on fast bowlers. This new strategy, called "Aaqib-ball," helped Pakistan win a Test series against England.
