Aaqib Javed (born 5 August 1972) is a famous Pakistani former cricketer. He was a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He could make the ball swing in different ways. Aaqib played for Pakistan in 22 Tests and 163 One Day International (ODI) matches. His career lasted from 1988 to 1998. He was a key player when Pakistan won the 1992 Cricket World Cup.
Today, Aaqib Javed is the head coach of the Pakistani cricket team. He also helps choose players for the national team.

Early Life
Aaqib Javed was born in Sheikhupura, Punjab. He grew up in a Punjabi family. He studied at Government Islamia College in Lahore. In 1998, he married Farzana Aqib. She is a writer, poet, and journalist.
International Cricket Career
Aaqib Javed played some of his best games against India. He took 54 wickets in 39 ODI matches against India. His bowling average against India was much better than his overall average. He also won "Man of the Match" four times against India.
Aaqib made history on 25 October 1991. He took a hat-trick in an ODI against India. This means he took three wickets with three balls in a row. He was only 19 years and 81 days old at the time. This made him the youngest player ever to take an ODI hat-trick.
He was a very important part of the Pakistan team that won the 1992 Cricket World Cup. Aaqib Javed's international career ended when he was 26 years old.
After Playing Cricket
Coaching Career
After retiring from playing, Aaqib Javed became a cricket coach. He was the main coach at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. He also coached Pakistan's Under-19 team. They won the 2004 U-19 Cricket World Cup under his guidance.
Aaqib also helped the Afghanistan national cricket team develop. He was the bowling coach for the Pakistan cricket team for a while. In 2012, he became the head coach for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. He coached them until 2016.
From 2016 to 2024, he worked with Lahore Qalandars. This is a team in the Pakistan Super League. He was their director of cricket operations and head coach. In 2024, he left these roles. He became part of the national team's selection committee instead.
He also coached the fast bowlers for the Sri Lankan national cricket team for two years.
In 2024, Aaqib Javed became the interim head coach of the Pakistan men's cricket team. He took over this role in November 2024. He is now the interim head coach for all formats of the game.
Cricket Administration
In October 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board asked Aaqib to join their selection committee. He then left his coaching roles with Lahore Qalandars.
Aaqib has brought new ideas to cricket. He introduced an "all-spin attack" strategy. This is unusual for Pakistan, which usually relies on fast bowlers. This new strategy, called "Aaqib-ball," helped Pakistan win a Test series against England.
