Abigail Daniella Phillip is a well-known American journalist and news anchor. She was born on November 25, 1988. Today, she works for CNN, a major news channel. She hosts two shows: CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip and CNN Saturday Morning Table for Five. Before joining CNN, Abby worked for other important news organizations. Early Life and School
Abby Phillip's family comes from Trinidad and Tobago. She was born in Alexandria, Virginia, in the U.S. Her mother, June Phillip, is a realtor. Her father, Carlos Phillip, was a teacher and later an educational psychologist. Abby has five brothers and sisters.
When she was a child, her family lived in Trinidad and Tobago for a short time. They moved back to the U.S. when Abby was nine years old. The family settled in Bowie, Maryland. Abby went to Bowie High School.
After high school, Abby attended Harvard College. She graduated in 2010 with a degree in government. She had first planned to study medicine. While at Harvard, she wrote for the student newspaper, The Harvard Crimson.
Abby Phillip's Career in Journalism
Abby Phillip started her journalism career at Politico. She worked as a reporter covering the White House. She also wrote about how political campaigns get their money and how groups try to influence laws.
In 2017, Abby joined CNN. There, she reported on the Trump Administration. Before CNN, she worked at The Washington Post. Her jobs there included reporting on national politics and other general news stories.

Abby Phillip helped lead a big political debate in 2020. This was the seventh Democratic debate for the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries. It took place at Drake University on January 14, 2020. Some people thought she was unfair to Bernie Sanders during the debate.
New Shows and Roles
In 2020, Abby Phillip made a deal to write a book. The book is called The Dream Deferred. It is about Reverend Jesse Jackson's try to become the Democratic presidential candidate in 1988. The book has not been released yet.
On January 11, 2021, it was announced that Abby would host a new show. Starting January 24, she became the anchor of the weekend edition of Inside Politics. She took over from John King on the Sunday morning version. The show is now called Inside Politics Sunday With Abby Phillip.
In August 2023, CNN changed its weekday and weekend shows. Abby Phillip was named the main host of CNN's 10 p.m. ET hour. Her new show is called CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip. This change meant she was no longer CNN's Senior Political Correspondent. Manu Raju now hosts Inside Politics on Sunday mornings.
Personal Life
Abby Phillip lives in New York City. Her husband is Marcus Richardson, who works as a cybersecurity consultant. They got married in May 2018 at the Larz Anderson House. In 2021, the couple shared that they were expecting their first child. Abby is also an honorary member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
