Mohammad Abdul Jabbar (born 10 February 1938 – died 30 August 2017) was a very famous singer from Bangladesh. He was known for his amazing voice. Some of his most popular songs include "Tumi Ki Dekhechho Kobhu Jiboner Porajoy", "Salam Salam Hajar Salam", and "Joy Bangla, Banglar Joy". These songs were so popular that in 2006, BBC Bangla listed them among the top 20 all-time Bangla songs.
Abdul Jabbar received important awards from the Government of Bangladesh. He was given the Ekushey Padak in 1980 and the Independence Day Award in 1996. These awards honor people who have made great contributions to the country.

Early Life and Music Career
Abdul Jabbar was born in a place called Kushtia. He finished his high school education in 1956. He started learning music at a young age. His first music teacher was Muhammad Osman in Kushtia. Later, he learned from other teachers like Moksed Ali Shai and Lutfel Haque in Kolkata.
In 1958, a songwriter named Azizur Rahman helped him become a singer for the radio station. He started singing for movies, which is called playback singing, in 1962. His first movie song was with music director Robin Ghosh. By 1964, he was also singing on TV.
Role in the Liberation War
In 1969, Abdul Jabbar started a music group called Bangabandhu Shilpagosthi. This group played an important role during the Bangladesh Liberation War. On 25 March 1971, he went to India. There, he joined many other artists at the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. This was a radio station that broadcasted patriotic songs and news to inspire people during the war.
After Bangladesh became independent, he continued to sing for films. He had a long career of over five decades.
Later Works
In 2008, Abdul Jabbar began working on his only album, named Kothay Amar Neel Doriya. This album was released in 2017. The songs on this album were written by Md Amirul Islam and composed by Md Golam Sarwar.
In the same year, he started another album with songs about the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Sadly, he became very ill before he could finish singing all the songs for this album.
Abdul Jabbar also served as the president of the Bangladesh Sangskritik Parishad. This is a cultural organization in Bangladesh.
Personal Life
Abdul Jabbar was married to Halima Jabbar. They had three children together: two sons named Mithun Jabbar and Babu Jabbar, and one daughter named Jasmin Jabbar.

Death
Abdul Jabbar became very ill in August 2017. He was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital on August 1, 2017. He had problems with his kidneys, heart, and prostate. His health got worse, and he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Sadly, he passed away on August 30, 2017, while he was still receiving treatment at the hospital.
