Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is an animated TV show. It is based on the popular movie of the same name. The series was made by Morgan Creek Productions and Nelvana Limited.
The show first aired on CBS from 1995 to 1997 for two seasons. Later, a third season and old episodes were shown on Nickelodeon from 1999 to 2000. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was one of three cartoons based on Jim Carrey movies that came out around the same time. The others were The Mask: Animated Series and Dumb and Dumber.

What's the Show About?
This cartoon continues the story from the Ace Ventura movies. The main character, Ace Ventura, is a funny private investigator. He loves all kinds of animals and helps them when they are in trouble. Michael Daingerfield (also known as Michael Hall) provides Ace's voice.
The show ran for two seasons on CBS. A third season aired on Nickelodeon when they started showing reruns. Many characters from the movies were in the cartoon, but different actors voiced them. The movies were already pretty silly, but the cartoon took the humor even further. It had lots of funny, exaggerated jokes. Seth MacFarlane, who later created shows like Family Guy, was one of the writers for Ace Ventura.
The show sometimes played with facts for fun. For example, one episode said the Egyptian Mau cat was extinct, but it's actually not! Even though it aired after The Mask (another popular cartoon based on a Jim Carrey movie) and even had a crossover episode with it, Ace Ventura didn't become a huge hit. Both The Mask and Ace Ventura were eventually cancelled.
A computer game called Ace Ventura was also made. It was based on the TV show and the movies.

Special Crossover Episode
There was a two-part crossover event between Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask. Both shows were based on Jim Carrey movies. This special aired on August 30, 1997.
The crossover started with The Mask episode called "The Aceman Cometh." It finished with the Ace Ventura episode "Have Mask, Will Travel." At the time, Ace Ventura aired right after The Mask on CBS's Saturday morning lineup. During the crossover, Stanley (The Mask) and Ace kept their own cartoon styles even when they were in each other's shows. This crossover was also the end of Ace Ventura's second season and the very last episode of The Mask.
In "The Aceman Cometh," Stanley Ipkiss's dog, Milo, has his brain swapped with a scientist and then gets dog-napped. Stanley hires Ace to help get Milo back. At the end of that episode, Spike (Ace's monkey sidekick) steals The Mask. Stanley then follows them to Miami to get it back. In "Have Mask, Will Travel," Stanley finds Ace just as Ace is asked to solve a case on a space station. This leads Stanley to become The Mask and join Ace on his space adventure!
DVD Release
A DVD with three episodes of the show was sold along with the two Ace Ventura movies. There was a small mistake on the DVD package. It said that Santa's main reindeer, Rudolph, was kidnapped in the first episode, "The Reindeer Hunter." But actually, Rudolph wasn't in that episode at all. It was the other reindeer who were taken! This was the only DVD release for the show.
