Adam Munro's Hockey Journey
Adam Munro started his hockey journey in junior leagues. He was chosen by the Erie Otters in the 1998 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Draft. Before that, he won a championship with Brantford in the Alliance Hockey league.
Early Success in the OHL
During the 2000-01 OHL season, Munro had an amazing 22-game unbeaten streak. He finished that season with 26 wins, 6 losses, and 6 ties. He also set two new records for the Erie Otters team. These records were for his goals-against average (GAA) and save percentage (SV%). He even played in a special game called the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. In this game, he played for Team Orr and helped them beat Team Cherry.
Joining the NHL and Beyond
The Chicago Blackhawks picked Munro in the first round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He was the 29th player chosen overall. He split his time between the Blackhawks and their minor league team, the Norfolk Admirals (AHL). This was during the 2003–04 and 2005–06 seasons. During the 2004–05 NHL lockout, he mostly played in the American Hockey League (AHL).
After his time with the Blackhawks, Munro signed with HC Fribourg-Gottéron in Switzerland in 2006. He then played for the Syracuse Crunch, which was the Columbus Blue Jackets' AHL team, during the 2007–08 season.
In the 2008–09 AHL season, he played for the Toronto Marlies. This team is the farm team for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He later signed with the Marlies again in October 2009. However, he left them to play for HC Sibir Novosibirsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in Russia in January 2010.
Playing in Europe and Later Career
Munro continued his career in Europe. In the 2013–14 season, while playing for HC TWK Innsbruck in Austria, he was even credited with scoring a goal! This happened on December 30, 2013, against the EHC Black Wings Linz.
In April 2017, The Hockey Writers listed Adam Munro as the second-best goalie in the history of the Erie Otters. This shows how important he was to that team.
Later in his career, in October 2019, the Hamilton Steelhawks announced they had signed Munro. He played for them in the Allan Cup Hockey league during the 2019-2020 season.
