A Look at Adamsville's Past
Adamsville was first settled in the spring of 1862. A man named David B. Adams and three other families started farms along the Beaver River. This is how the community got its name.
In 1866, the people living in Adamsville had to move temporarily. They went to Greenville for safety. This was during a time known as the Black Hawk War. Even with this move, the community continued to grow.
In 1867, the town area was officially mapped out. It was then formally named Adamsville. A year later, in 1868, the community built a meetinghouse. This building was used for community gatherings. It also served as the local school until around 1920. A post office was opened in Adamsville on April 10, 1868. Before being called Adamsville, the community had other names like Beaver Creek Iron Works and Wales.
