His Career as a Lawyer
Adil Ismayilov began his career in 1978. He worked in local prosecutor's offices, which are like government legal offices. He was a chief investigator in Sumgayit City. Later, in 1983, he became an investigator for important cases at the main Prosecutor General's Office.
In September 1991, Ismayilov decided to leave his job. He wanted to become a private lawyer. He believed that Azerbaijan would soon become an independent and democratic country. He also spoke out against problems in the Soviet legal system. He shared his ideas in Azadliq, a newspaper that was against the Soviet government.
Around this time, Ismayilov was in touch with the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party. This was a political group that wanted change. He met with their leader, Abulfaz Elchibey, who later became the president of Azerbaijan. In 1995, Ismayilov started his own law firm called "ADISAD".
Important Cases and Work
As a lawyer, Ismayilov worked on many famous cases. During a political event in Azerbaijan in 1993, he became the lawyer for important figures. These included Isa Gambar, who was a former acting president, and Isgandar Hamidov, a former minister.
In 2008, Ismayilov wrote a book called Legal Absurdities. In this book, he talked about parts of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan that he thought were unclear or had problems.
