Isa Gambar (born February 24, 1957) is an important politician from Azerbaijan. He leads a political group called the Equality Party (Müsavat). This party is one of the main opposition groups in Azerbaijan.
Isa Gambar became a member of parliament in 1990. Later, in 1992, he was chosen to be the speaker of the parliament. He worked closely with Abulfaz Elchibey, who was the first president of independent Azerbaijan chosen by the people.

Early Life and Education
Isa Gambar was born on February 24, 1957. He grew up in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan.
School and University Years
In 1974, Isa Gambar finished high school in Baku. He then went to Baku State University. In 1979, he graduated from the university with a degree in history.
Starting His Career
After university, Isa Gambar worked as a researcher. From 1979 to 1982, he worked in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Then, from 1982 to 1990, he was a researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies. This institute is part of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences.
Political Journey
Isa Gambar became very active in politics in the late 1980s. He helped start and lead the Popular Front of Azerbaijan (PFA). This group played a big role in Azerbaijan's move towards independence.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
From 1990 to 1991, he was the deputy chairman of the PFA. In 1990, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP). This meant he helped make laws for the country.
Leading the Parliament
From 1991 to 1992, he led the Parliament's group for foreign relations. In 1992, he became the chairman of the Equality Party (Azerbaijan). In May 1992, he was chosen as the Speaker of the Parliament.
Acting President of Azerbaijan
For a short time, from May 18 to June 17, 1992, Isa Gambar served as the acting President of Azerbaijan. During this time, he helped prepare the country for democratic elections. He stepped down from this role in June 1993.
Later Political Activities
Isa Gambar continued to be a strong voice in Azerbaijani politics. He worked to bring different political groups together.
Forming Coalitions
In 1999, and again from 2001 to 2003, he helped create and lead the Democratic Congress. This was a group of major political parties in Azerbaijan.
Presidential Candidacy
In 2003, Isa Gambar was the main presidential candidate for a group called “Bizim Azərbaycan” (“Our Azerbaijan”). This group included more than 30 political parties.
Supporting Free Press
In 2000, he received an award called "Friend of Journalists." This award recognized his support for freedom of the press.
Involvement in Protests
Isa Gambar has been a key figure in protests in Azerbaijan. He believes in peaceful demonstrations to bring about change.
Protests for Change
In 2011, he helped organize protests in Baku. These protests were inspired by similar movements in other countries. Even when the government banned gatherings, he and his party continued to rally. He has spoken out about the need for a more open and fair government in Azerbaijan.

Isa Gambar is married and has two sons. His wife, Aida Bağırova, is a history professor at Baku State University.
