Adria Airways was an important airline from Slovenia. It was like the main airline for the country. Adria Airways started flying on March 14, 1961. For many years, it helped people travel to different places.
In 1969, Adria Airways got its first jet aircraft, which was a Douglas DC-9. This was a big step for the airline, making flights faster. Over the years, Adria Airways added more modern planes to its group, like the Airbus A320 in 1989. By June 2015, the airline had 12 airplanes. Sadly, Adria Airways stopped flying on September 30, 2019.

Adria Airways had a long history, flying for over 50 years. It started small but grew to connect Slovenia with many cities around the world.
Beginning to Fly
When Adria Airways first began in 1961, it was called Adria Aviopromet. It later changed its name to Inex-Adria Airways. The airline helped people travel for holidays and business. It used different types of planes as technology improved.
Important Moments
Over its history, Adria Airways had many important moments. Getting its first jet plane in 1969 was a big step forward. However, there was also a very sad event in December 1981 when one of its airplanes crashed in Corsica. This was a difficult time for the airline and the country.
Later, Adria Airways joined a big group of airlines called Star Alliance. This meant it worked with other major airlines around the world, making it easier for passengers to travel to even more places.
Planes Adria Airways Used
Adria Airways used many different kinds of airplanes during its time.
- Douglas DC-9: This was their first jet plane, bought in 1969.
- Airbus A320: A popular type of plane that joined their fleet in 1989.
- Bombardier CRJ: Adria Airways used several models of these smaller, efficient jets, like the CRJ200 and CRJ900. These were good for shorter flights.
- Boeing 737: They also used some Boeing 737 planes, which are very common passenger jets.
These planes helped Adria Airways carry millions of passengers over the years.
Why Adria Airways Stopped Flying
In 2019, Adria Airways faced many financial problems. It became very difficult for the airline to keep flying. Even after trying to find solutions, the airline had to stop all its flights on September 30, 2019. This was a sad day for Slovenia, as it lost its national airline.
