Early Life and Education
Ahmed Chawki was born on December 31, 1982, in a town called Jbeldersa, near Tétouan in Morocco. From a young age, he loved to write and sing poems. He went to the National School of Theatre and Singing in Tétouan, where he learned a lot about music.
He also won several awards at different events. Later, he studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Tétouan. There, he focused on classical and Western singing styles and learned about music theory.
Music Career
Starting Out in Music
In 2000, Chawki won first place at the Arab Music Festival in Tetouan. After that, he created his own music band called La Paloma with other young musicians. La Paloma mixed different music styles, including Arab, Moroccan, and flamenco music.
The band performed at many festivals both in Morocco and other countries. They became very popular and were often featured on TV shows and radio stations. Some of their hit songs included "Ya Lmima," "La Paloma," and "Sinine," which was a song with the Spanish band Librejano.
In 2009 and 2010, Chawki released more songs like "Inta Lya," "Ya Nassini," "Ghaly," and another version of "La Paloma." These songs did quite well, even though he didn't have much support from big music companies at the time.
Becoming a Star in 2013
Chawki got the attention of RedOne, a very famous music producer. This happened when they were working on a big music project called "Bukra" (which means "tomorrow" in Arabic) with Quincy Jones. Chawki was one of many Arab artists who joined this project.
His big break came in 2012 when he started working closely with RedOne. RedOne had just produced a very successful album for the singer Khaled. This opened the door for RedOne to work with more artists from the Middle East, including Ahmed Chawki.
In 2013, Chawki released the international hit song "Habibi I Love You" with RedOne. This song was special because it mixed Arabic words with Western dance music. It also featured the American rapper Pitbull. The song became a huge summer hit in the Middle East and also did well in Europe, especially in France and the Netherlands.
"Habibi I Love You" was performed live at the Mawazine Festival in Rabat in 2013. It quickly became number one on music charts in countries like Lebanon, Egypt, and the Persian Gulf area.
The song was so popular that different versions were made. In France, it had extra French lyrics and featured the singer Kenza Farah. This French version was performed live in Marseille in June 2013. There was also a Spanish version with singer Sophia Del Carmen and Pitbull. In the Netherlands, a Dutch version was released with Dutch singer Do van Hulst. This version was sung in Dutch, Spanish, English, and Arabic.
After "Habibi I Love You," Chawki released another song called "Ana Bahwak" (which means "I Adore You"), also produced by RedOne.
More Success in 2014
For the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Ahmed Chawki, now known simply as Chawki, was featured in a football-themed song called "Magic in the Air" by the group Magic System. This song was also produced by RedOne and became a big hit in France, Belgium, and other European countries.
At the same time, Chawki released his own song, "Time of Our Lives." This song was also produced by RedOne and released on RedOne Records. He also released a French version called "Time of Our Lives (Notre Moment)" and an Arabic version called "Farhat al 'Aalam."
