Akwid is a Mexican music group. They are known for mixing hip hop with traditional Mexican regional music. The group started in 2000. It was first called Juvenile Style. The two main members of Akwid are brothers, Francisco "AK" Gómez and Sergio "Wikid" Gómez. They were born in Jiquilpan, Michoacán, Mexico. Today, they live in Los Angeles, California.

How Akwid Started

Sergio and Francisco Gómez were born in Michoacán, Mexico. They moved to the United States when they were very young. Sergio was five years old, and Francisco was three. They grew up in Los Angeles. There, they discovered their talent for music. They especially loved Hip hop.

Akwid became famous for mixing different music styles and cultures. Their music helped young people around the world feel connected. Many people see the Gómez brothers as pioneers in this unique music style. They use music to share their ideas and feelings.

Akwid's Music Albums

Akwid's first album was called Proyecto Akwid. This album won two Billboard Prizes. It also won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Alternative/Rock Album. A Grammy is a very important music award.

Their album Hoy, Ayer, and Forever (2004) has new versions of songs from their 2002 A.D. album. It shows their newer style, which includes more Mexican regional music. Another album, KOMP 104.9 Radio Compa (2004), sounds like a radio station playing only Akwid's music.

In 2005, they released Los Aguacates de Jiquilpan. This album tells a story, like a fairy tale. It explains their journey from Mexico to the United States. Akwid later signed with Machete Music. This record label is part of Universal Music Group.

Akwid also made a special song called "Chivas Explosivas!". This song became the official anthem for the Chivas USA soccer team. This team plays in the Major League Soccer.
