Alaa Wardi (Arabic: علاء وردي) (Persian:علا واردی) is a talented singer, songwriter, and music producer. He was born on January 13, 1987. He is famous for his amazing a cappella music, which means he makes music using only his voice, without instruments! Alaa shares his unique music, including covers of popular songs and his own original tunes, on YouTube. He has covered songs from the Middle East, England, Bollywood, and K-pop.
Alaa Wardi released his album Fi Ba7ri in 2015 and Madinat Al Salah in 2016. He is also part of an Arab rock and pop band called Hayajan.
Career
Alaa Wardi studied music and sound engineering at the University of Jordan. After he graduated in 2008, he went back to Riyadh to work and focus on making music.
One of his most famous videos is "No Woman, No Drive," released in October 2013. He made this funny music video with comedians Hisham Fageeh and Fahad Albutairi. It was a playful comment on a rule in Saudi Arabia at the time that didn't allow women to drive. They sang it a cappella, using the tune of Bob Marley's song "No Woman, No Cry."
In June 2015, Alaa released his album Fi Ba7ri. The words for the songs on this album were written by Aziz Maraka, a musician from Jordan. His Hindi cover versions of Bollywood hits like "Pehla Nasha" and "Jiya Re" became very popular. Another famous video is his mash-up called "Evolution of Arabic Music." This video is an a cappella mix of 42 Arabic songs from the 1930s to the 2010s. He has worked with many other Arab and international artists, including Peter Hollens.
In August 2019, Alaa Wardi released an a cappella mix of songs by the famous Lebanese singer Fairuz. This video featured Jordanian indie singer Haifa Kamal. The song quickly became very popular, getting over 800,000 views in just nine days. However, people who manage Fairuz's music asked Wardi to take the video down because of copyright rules.
Personal life
Alaa Wardi was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His parents are from Iran. His family owns a furniture business in Riyadh. In 2015, he married Sinem Güneş in Bodrum, Turkey.
