Albie Morkel had an exciting career in cricket, playing for different teams around the world. He was known for his strong performances with both the bat and the ball.
Early Career in First-Class Cricket
Albie started his career playing first-class cricket in South Africa. In his early seasons, his bowling was very impressive. He once took six wickets for only 36 runs for his team, Easterns. Later, his batting improved a lot. He even scored his first double century, which means he made 204 runs in one game without being out.
He also played for clubs in England, like Durham County Cricket Club and Somerset County Cricket Club. In 2013, he joined Derbyshire for their Twenty20 tournament.
Playing for South Africa
Albie Morkel played for the South African national team from 2004 to 2015. When he first played internationally in New Zealand, he took a few wickets. Later, he played against Zimbabwe and took five wickets.
In 2007, something special happened: Albie and his brother Morné Morkel opened the bowling together for Africa against Asia. This was the first time two brothers had done this in a One Day International (ODI) cricket match.
In 2009, Albie was named "Man of the Match" twice against Australia. He also won the "Man of the Series" award for his great performance in the One Day Internationals. He even played one Test match for South Africa in 2009.
Success in T20 Franchise Cricket

In 2012, during an IPL match, he hit 28 runs in just one over while batting against Virat Kohli. This amazing effort helped the Chennai Super Kings win a very close game. He was also known for hitting the longest six in the 2012 IPL, measuring 105 meters!
After playing for Chennai, Albie also played for other IPL teams, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils, and Rising Pune Supergiant. In 2018, he played for the Durban Heat in the Mzansi Super League T20 tournament.
