The Albreda River is a cool river located in British Columbia, Canada. It flows through the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. This river is part of the huge Pacific Ocean drainage basin, which means its water eventually reaches the Pacific Ocean.

The Albreda River is a smaller river that joins the North Thompson River. The closest towns to where the Albreda River meets the North Thompson are Blue River, about 42 kilometers (26 miles) south, and Valemount, about 48 kilometers (30 miles) north.

Journey of the Albreda River

The Albreda River starts from a spot where smaller streams meet in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. From there, it flows southwest. It goes under British Columbia Highway 5 and the Canadian National Railway main line. This railway is a busy track used by freight trains and the famous Canadian passenger train.

The highway and railway follow the Albreda River valley for most of its journey. They even cross the river several times! The river then enters the Thompson-Nicola Regional District near a place called Albreda. It flows through Albreda Lake before turning south.

Finally, the Albreda River reaches its end point, called its mouth, where it joins the North Thompson River. This spot is near the railway point of Goswell. Towering over this area is Mount Albreda, which is part of the Monashee Mountains. Some of the Albreda River's own smaller streams, like Clemina Creek and Dora Creek, start from Mount Albreda.

Where the Water Goes

The North Thompson River then flows into the Thompson River, which then flows into the Fraser River. All of this water eventually makes its way to the Pacific Ocean.

The very beginning of the Albreda River is a special place called a drainage divide. This means it's a high point where water flows in different directions. On one side, water flows towards the North Thompson River. On the other side, water flows towards the Columbia River system. For example, Camp Creek flows from this divide into the Canoe River, which then goes to Kinbasket Lake on the Columbia River.

Smaller Streams Joining the Albreda River

Many smaller streams, called tributaries, flow into the Albreda River along its path. These add more water to the river as it travels.
