Alenka Gotar is a famous Slovene singer, born in Rodica in 1977. She is a soprano, which means she sings with a very high voice. In 2007, Alenka represented Slovenia in the big music competition called the Eurovision Song Contest. She sang a song called "Cvet z juga" (which means "Flower of the South"). She did really well, coming in seventh place in the semi-final. This made her the first person from Slovenia to reach the grand final! In the final, she finished fifteenth.

About Alenka's Life and Music
Alenka Gotar started her musical journey at a small music school. There, she learned to play the piano and guitar. Later, she went to a music and ballet school in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. A teacher named Markos Bajuk taught her how to sing solo.
After finishing school in 1996, Alenka decided to study singing even more. She went to the Musical Academy in Basel, Switzerland. In 1999, she studied at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria. She learned from a great teacher named Lilijan Sukis. Alenka earned her diploma in 2000.
She kept studying singing and opera in Salzburg with Sukis. She also improved her skills in Rome and with other famous singers like Marjana Lipovšek. Alenka earned her master's degree in 2006.
Alenka Gotar often performs as a special guest at the Maribor Opera. She also sings as a main performer in state theaters in Salzburg and Ljubljana. She has traveled with orchestras and choirs to many countries. These include Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Croatia, and countries in Scandinavia. Her music covers many styles, from old classical pieces to modern songs. She also teaches music to others.
Eurovision Song Contest 2007
On February 4, 2007, Alenka Gotar won a competition called EMA 2007. This competition chose who would represent Slovenia at Eurovision. The public voted for their favorite singer. Alenka won with 44,636 votes, beating another singer named Eva Černe.
In Helsinki, Finland, Alenka sang "Cvet z juga" in the Eurovision semi-final on May 10, 2007. She made it to the finals, which was a big achievement for Slovenia! In the final, she placed 15th. Her song was a fast, rhythmic ballad with opera-style singing. Andrej Babić wrote and composed the song.
