Alenka Gotar is a talented Slovene soprano singer. She was born in Rodica in 1977. Alenka became well-known when she represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007. She sang the song "Cvet z juga", which means "Flower of the South".
At Eurovision, she made history for Slovenia. She was the first Slovene singer to reach the grand final. She finished seventh in the semi-final. In the grand final, she placed fifteenth with 66 points.

Alenka Gotar's Early Life and Music Journey
Alenka Gotar started her music adventure at a young age. She went to a small music school. There, she learned to play the piano and the guitar. Later, she attended a music and ballet school in Ljubljana. She studied solo singing with a teacher named Markos Bajuk.
After finishing school in 1996, Alenka continued her studies. She went to the Musical Academy in Basel, Switzerland. In 1999, she studied at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. She learned from Lilijan Sukis there. Alenka earned her first diploma in 2000.

Alenka kept studying singing and opera in Salzburg. She also improved her skills in Rome. She worked with famous teachers like Maya Sunari-Biankini. She also learned from Marjana Lipovšek and Alfred Burgstaller. Alenka earned her master's degree in music in 2006.

Alenka Gotar is a special guest singer at the Maribor Opera. She also performs as a soloist in state theaters. These include theaters in Salzburg and Ljubljana. Eurovision Song Contest 2007

Performing "Cvet z juga"
Alenka sang "Cvet z juga" in the semi-final on May 10, 2007. Her performance was strong, and she moved on to the finals. In the final, she placed 15th with the same song. "Cvet z juga" is a fast, rhythmic song. It combines pop music with operatic singing. Andrej Babić wrote and composed the song. Aleksandra Valenčić arranged the music.
EMA 2007 was special because only public votes decided the winner. After two semi-finals and a final, the Slovenian public chose between Alenka and Eva Černe. Alenka received 44,636 votes. This made her the winner and Slovenia's representative at Eurovision.

Since the summer of 2000, Alenka Gotar has often performed at the SNG opera and ballet in Ljubljana. She has sung in many different opera roles there.
