Alex then studied at Berklee College of Music, a well-known music school. He graduated in 1995 with a very high GPA. At Berklee, he learned about jazz, arranging music, and creating music for movies. Alex has hearing loss and uses hearing aids to help him hear.

Alex's Amazing Career in Music

Alex Lacamoire has worked on many exciting theater productions. He often serves as the music director, helping the performers and musicians sound their best. He also arranges and orchestrates music, which means he decides which instruments play which parts and how the music sounds overall.

Early Broadway Work

Early in his career, Alex worked on shows like Bat Boy: The Musical and Legally Blonde. He was also the music director for Wicked in 2005. He helped with the music for High Fidelity too.

Working with Lin-Manuel Miranda

Alex has worked a lot with the famous writer and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda. One of their first big projects together was In the Heights. Alex helped create the music for this show. He won his second Tony Award for Best Orchestrations in 2016 for Hamilton. The show's Original Broadway Cast Recording also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album in 2016. This was Alex's second Grammy!

Alex also often took part in the fun Ham4Ham performances. These were short shows that happened outside the theater on days when Hamilton had two performances.

Dear Evan Hansen and Other Projects

Alex is also the Music Supervisor for Dear Evan Hansen. For this musical, he won his third Tony Award and his third Grammy Award.

He was the music director and orchestrator for Carmen Jones, a Cuban version of the classic opera Carmen. Alex said working on this show felt like channeling music that was "in his blood."
