Alexander Nevzorov: A Life in Media
Alexander Nevzorov was born in Leningrad, Russia, on August 3, 1958. He began working for Leningrad television in 1985. From 1987 to 1993, he hosted a popular TV show called 600 Seconds. This show was watched all over the Soviet Union.
In 1990, he was attacked and injured during a meeting. His show later faced challenges and lost some of its popularity. During a big political event in 1991, Nevzorov supported one side of the conflict. He also started a group called Nashi. His TV show was eventually stopped in 1993 after a major political disagreement.
Reporting on Conflicts
Nevzorov also worked as a reporter during the Yugoslav Wars and the Transnistria War in the early 1990s. He traveled to these areas to report on the events happening there.

Political Journey in Russia
In 1993, Nevzorov was elected as a deputy to the State Duma, which is like the parliament in Russia. He was re-elected three more times as an independent deputy. He served in this role until 2007.
He also worked as an advisor for film, TV, and radio. This was when Vladimir Yakovlev was the mayor of Saint Petersburg.
Changing Views on Conflicts
In 1994, Nevzorov initially supported the start of the First Chechen War. He even directed a TV film about the war in 1997 called Chistilishche ("Purgatory"). However, as the war continued, his opinions changed. He became more critical of Russia's actions and regretted some of his earlier strong nationalist views. He later said that he had explored some nationalist ideas but realized they were not good.
In 2003, Nevzorov worked with a major TV channel, ORT. He often appeared as a political commentator on a news show. In 2012, he supported Vladimir Putin during his presidential campaign.
Stance on Ukraine
In 2014, Nevzorov spoke out against Russia's actions regarding Crimea. In 2021, before the major conflict began, he predicted that a future Russian invasion of Ukraine would be a tragedy. He also believed that Ukrainians would resist strongly.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine started in 2022, Nevzorov published information about events in Mariupol. Because of this, he faced difficulties from the Russian government. He was added to a list of people considered "foreign agents" by the Russian government. This means the government views them as acting in the interests of other countries.
In June 2022, Nevzorov and his wife, Lidia, applied for Ukrainian citizenship. Both Nevzorov and the Ukrainian State Migration Service confirmed that they had received Ukrainian citizenship.
