Alexandra Shipp (born July 16, 1991) is an American actress and singer. She became famous for playing the singer Aaliyah in the TV movie Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (2014). She also played Kimberly Woodruff in the movie Straight Outta Compton (2015).
Shipp is best known for playing the superhero Storm in the X-Men movies, like X-Men: Apocalypse. She also starred as Abby Suso in the fun romantic movie Love, Simon (2018). Another one of her major roles was Susan Wilson in the musical movie tick, tick... BOOM!.

Early Life
Shipp was born in Phoenix, Arizona. Her mother is a yoga teacher, and her father is a marketing executive. She has two brothers, James and Jordan, and a stepsister named Kasia.
Shipp went to Squaw Peak Elementary School and Arizona School for the Arts. She also attended St. Mary's Catholic High School in Phoenix. When she was 17, she moved to Los Angeles to start her acting career.
Career
First Roles
In 2009, Shipp had her first acting role in the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. She later starred in the third season of the Nickelodeon show House of Anubis as the character KT Rush.
Becoming a Star
In 2014, Shipp became more well-known. She played Dani Raymond in the TV movie Drumline: A New Beat. She also played the famous singer Aaliyah in Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B. Shipp did her own singing for this role.
The next year, she played Kimberly Woodruff, the wife of rapper Ice Cube, in the movie Straight Outta Compton. This film told the story of the hip hop group N.W.A.
Joining the X-Men
In 2016, Shipp joined the world of superheroes. She played Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm, in the movie X-Men: Apocalypse. Storm is a mutant who can control the weather. The actress Halle Berry had played this role in earlier movies. Shipp played Storm again in the 2019 movie Dark Phoenix.
Recent Work
In 2018, Shipp starred in two high school comedy movies, Love, Simon and Dude. In the summer of 2019, she appeared in the action-comedy movie Shaft.
In 2021, she was in the movie version of the musical tick, tick... BOOM! as the character Susan. In 2023, Shipp was part of the cast of the hit movie Barbie.
Personal Life
In June 2021, Shipp shared that she is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
