Alfred Michaud (born November 6, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He is an Ojibwe person. Michaud played junior hockey and then spent three years with the Maine Black Bears. He even won a big college championship during his time there.
Michaud became a professional player in 1999. He joined the Syracuse Crunch, which was a team linked to the Vancouver Canucks in the American Hockey League (AHL). He played two games for the Canucks in 1999. He finished his professional playing career in Denmark's top ice hockey league. Today, he is an assistant coach for his old college team, the Maine Black Bears. He also runs a special school called Dream Catcher's Hockey, which helps young goalies.
Michaud's Hockey Journey
Alfie Michaud was never chosen in the NHL draft. However, he signed a professional contract with the Vancouver Canucks in 1999. This happened after he had a very successful time playing for the University of Maine. There, he had an impressive record of 28 wins, 6 losses, and 3 ties.
In his first professional season, he played 38 games for the Syracuse Crunch. This team was the Canucks' main minor league team in the AHL. He was called up to play two games for the Canucks because some players were injured. His first NHL game was on October 28 against the Phoenix Coyotes. His second and last NHL game was on November 7 against the St. Louis Blues. For the next two seasons, he continued to play in minor leagues. He did not get another chance to play in the NHL.
The Canucks released Michaud in 2002. After that, he played for several teams in the ECHL. These teams included the Reading Royals, Peoria Rivermen, and Utah Grizzlies. He finished his playing career overseas. He played for the Fischtown Pinguins in Germany. Then he played for SønderjyskE in Denmark.
During the 2010–11 season in Denmark, he set an amazing record. He played for 360 minutes and 58 seconds without letting in a single goal. The old record in Denmark was 242 minutes. This shows how skilled he was as a goaltender.
